A home for the herd.
After a decade in hospitality, James understood what made cafés great — and what held them back. The coffee, the food, the atmosphere: all of it mattered. But more than anything, it was the people. The conversations shared across tables, the familiar faces returning each morning, and the sense of belonging that turns a café into something much more than a place to eat and drink.
When the opportunity arose to take over a struggling café in Ivanhoe, James saw more than a business opportunity. He saw the chance to create a space that brought people together. In a world increasingly lived through screens and notifications, he wanted to build somewhere people could slow down, reconnect, and feel part of a community. Starting with little more than a vision and a dedicated team, Lost Sheep was built from the ground up around one simple idea: people need places to belong.
The name Lost Sheep reflects the belief that everyone feels a little lost from time to time. Whether you're navigating life's challenges or simply searching for a moment of peace, Lost Sheep exists as a place to pause, connect with others, gather your thoughts, and perhaps discover a new direction. More than a café, it's a community built on genuine human connection.

"I wanted to build a warm gathering place for this local community that I've become part of — somewhere people genuinely want to be, that becomes part of their weekly rhythm."
James Xu • Owner, Lost Sheep Cafe
Good coffee. Good people. No shortcuts.
- A Local Fixture
Not a destination café, not a tourist stop. A place Ivanhoe locals call theirs — for the morning coffee, the slow Sunday brunch, the catch-up that runs long.
- A Team Worth Knowing
The team has grown from 8 to 14. James's greatest investment isn't the equipment — it's the people. Regulars return because of the friendly faces, not just the food.
- A Menu with Standards
Every dish is tracked. Every new drink tested. Only the best make the cut.
